 The Tasmanian Government has assumed a caretaker role ahead of the election for the Tasmanian House of Assembly. It is important during this time that Tasmanian Government resources are not used to communicate political material. As such, no political or election material will be placed on this site.

Adding a new apprenticeship/traineeship qualification

Apprenticeship Network Providers (ANP), Registered Training Organisations, Industry associations and employers can request that any nationally recognised qualification be made available as an approved apprenticeship or traineeship in Tasmania.

The same application form can also be used to request that the qualification be available for:

  • funding under the Apprentice and Trainee Training Fund;
  • delivery as a part-time apprenticeship or traineeship; and
  • delivery as a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship.

This includes qualifications already approved as an apprenticeship or traineeship pathway.

The Tasmanian Government is committed to supporting the training of apprentices and trainees by making a contribution towards the cost of their training. It should be noted that the funds provided for each qualification are a contribution only and do not necessarily represent the full cost of delivery. Where the cost of delivery is in excess of the funds provided by the Government, training organisations are entitled to seek the balance from the employer.

Applying to add a qualification

Please complete the Application for approval of a nationally recognised qualification | Word 28KB and email it to appr.trn.apprv@skills.tas.gov.au.

Assessment of applications

Skills Tasmania will assess each application and determine whether to approve a qualification, including the conditions for funding, duration, part-time and school-based availability. Further information may be sought from the applicant if required. This process usually takes between two and three weeks.
