The Apprentice and Trainee Training Fund provides grants to eligible registered training organisations to subsidise the cost of delivering training and assessment and associated learner support services to Tasmanian apprentices and trainees. The objective is to facilitate the attraction and completion of apprentices and trainees as a critical pathway to enabling job-ready learners, aligned to the needs of industry, employers and learners.

The Fund is a rolling program that is released annually. Applications for each annual round close at the end of the applicable calendar year.

1Eligibility for the Fund

Applicant eligibility

To be eligible to apply applicants must meet each of the following eligibility criteria both at the time of applying, and for the duration of any subsequent funding agreement:

  • be a Skills Tasmania endorsed registered training organisation
  • have the requested qualification(s) and/or unit(s) of competency included on their scope of registration for delivery in Tasmania
  • be financially viable, and
  • have a current contract of public liability insurance for at least $20 million for each individual claim or series of claims arising out of a single occurrence.

TasTAFE is not eligible to apply as a lead applicant but can partner with other eligible applicants under the Fund. Organisations are also encouraged to contact TasTAFE directly to discuss options for TasTAFE to deliver training under its existing funding arrangements.

Learner eligibility

To be eligible for an Apprentice and Trainee Training Fund training place, learners must be an apprentice or a trainee with a registered training contract in Tasmania, and can be new or existing workers, school aged learners or previously qualified apprentices and trainees.

More information about learner eligibility is available in the Grant Program Guidelines.

2How to make an application

Applicants must read the 2024 Apprentice and Trainee Training Fund – Grant Program Guidelines prior to applying.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online using the SmartyGrants online grant management system prior to the closing time. The application process requires applicants to address selection criteria and attach supporting evidence.

3Which qualifications are available to be funded and how much is the subsidy?

The qualifications approved and funded in Tasmania page provides details on which qualifications are available for funding under this program, along with the subsidy paid by Skills Tasmania. It also explains how you can have a qualification added to the approved list of qualifications.

4Adding a new qualification

If an endorsed registered training organisation would like to apply to deliver a qualification not currently included in their existing 2024 Apprentice and Trainee Training Fund - Grant Deed (Training Services), a new application for that qualification must be lodged through SmartyGrants.

5What if the qualification has been superseded?

If a qualification within an existing Skills Tasmania ATTF grant agreement or Grant Deed (Training Services) has been superseded or replaced, you must apply to vary your agreement to include the new version of the qualification. The application form is below.

It is important to apply to vary your grant agreement or grant deed as soon as the qualifications are updated and available on the Skills Tasmania qualifications approved as an apprenticeship or traineeship list or on training.gov.au.
