The Train Now Fund is now open to subsidise training that meets an immediate or unexpected need. The Train Now Fund provides grants for Skills Tasmania endorsed Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to deliver nationally recognised training that meets:

  • an immediate or unexpected industry or enterprise training need, and/or
  • an immediate or unexpected learner training need in a particular region or for a particular cohort.

The Train Now Fund:

  • supports nationally recognised training and assessment in single unit and custom skill sets (both custom skill sets and training packages skill sets)
  • subsidises training for existing workers and/or jobseekers
  • is administered as a rolling grant, with applications being accepted throughout the year or until the budget is exhausted
  • requires RTOs to deliver training within six months of the start of the funding agreement and providers must aim to complete learner training within six months of commencement.

Applicants can apply for up to $150,000 for any single purpose and the fund will be open until 30 June 2025, or until all funds are expended.

Review of Regional Migration Settings - Consultation sessions for Tasmania

The Australian Government will host consultation sessions on regional migration in Tasmania across three days in September.

As part of the Migration Strategy, the Australian Government committed to evaluate regional migration settings and the Working Holiday Maker program to ensure migration supports development objectives in regional Australia and does not contribute to the exploitation of migrant workers. The Supporting Strong and Sustainable Regions Discussion Paper (1360KB PDF) outlines further information and the scope of what is being considered through this reform.

In-person forums are available as an opportunity to engage directly with representatives from Department of Home Affairs on issues surrounding regional migration settings.

We encourage you to participate to ensure Tasmania’s unique needs are reflected, including your insights and experience, which may look like:

  • areas of skills and workforce needs of Tasmania (and across regions)
  • areas of unmet demand and where skilled migration may assist
  • direct experience with current regional migration settings and visas
