The Training and Work Pathways Program is a Department of State Growth grant program aimed at supporting better job and training outcomes for Tasmanians facing disadvantage.

The Program is delivered by Skills Tasmania and Jobs Tasmania and, under Stream 1, will fund targeted job-readiness projects to support disadvantaged learners to a successful training or employment outcome, and under Stream 2, projects that provide individualised and wrap-around support to young people (aged 15-25 years) to support them engage in a pathway to work, education or training.

Program objectives

STREAM 1 – Pathways to training and employment

Projects funded under this stream must undertake targeted activities that address specific barriers or disadvantage impacting people accessing and participating in training and/or employment that:

  • increases participation in training and leads to better labour force participation, work-readiness or employment outcomes for Tasmanians facing disadvantage, and/or
  • supports collaborative relationships between community organisations, training providers and employers to increase access to and supported participation in training and/or employment for Tasmanians facing disadvantage.

STREAM 2 - Youth support

Projects funded under this stream must focus on young people (15-25 years) who are disengaged or at risk of disengagement, and/or more vulnerable to experience disadvantage and/or complex barriers to employment, education or training. The program will support eligible organisations to provide individualised and wrap-around support for young people to engage in a pathway to work, education or training over longer term (up to) two-year projects.

Eligibility criteria

STREAM 1 – Pathways to training and employment

  • community service or not-for-profit organisations
  • a club, community-based association
  • a charity registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC)
  • a trust that is an incorporated body, under a formal auspice arrangement with a community service organisation that is incorporated
  • business/employer (includes Group Training Organisations)
  • Regional Jobs Hubs
  • Skills Tasmania endorsed RTOs.

STREAM 2 - Youth support

  • be a sole trader, partnership, company, trust or an incorporated organisation at the time of the application, or
  • a charity registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (CNC), or
  • may be a lead organisation, as a legal entity, acting on behalf of consortia of businesses or community organisations.
  • all eligible applicants must:
    • have an Australian Business Number (ABN)
    • be registered for goods and services tax (GST)
    • be operating in Tasmania at the time of application.

Information session

Skills Tasmania and Jobs Tasmania will deliver an information session to support applicants to understand the objectives of the grant and application process. The session will be hosted on Microsoft Teams on Monday 3 June 2024 at 2:00PM (AEST).
